Dr. Spires and his wife Gena are natives of Cookeville, Tennessee. He has completed residency training at the East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine. Prior to four years of training in Johnson City, Dr. Spires completed two years in Pikeville, Kentucky at the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also a graduate of Tennessee Technological University with a bachelor of sciences.
Dr. Spires and Gena have three children. His interests outside of work include golf, fishing, camping, coaching soccer and spending time with his family. Dr. Spires has done medical and evangelical mission work in Romania, Venezuela, and Dominican Republic/Haiti.
Obstetrics and Gynecology have been passions of Dr. Spires since before medical school. His primary interests include: pelvic floor and urinary incontinence surgery, minimally-invasive surgery including robotic surgery, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and compassionate obstetric care. Dr Spires has won multiple awards for teaching obstetrics and gynecology at the Quillen College of Medicine and continues to teach Bristol family practice residents to help improve the obstetric care in East Tennessee.
